UAE Rotax MAX Challenge round 7 preview
The seventh round of the United Arab Emirates Rotax Max Challenge takes place this weekend at the garden city track; Al Ain Raceway. With the series now running over 60 drivers Fridays racing is sure to be extremely competitive.
Oliver George will be looking to extend his lead in the DD2 championship and will be buoyed by his recent double triumph at Dubai Autodrome. His nearest rival, Mohammed Al Dhaheri, needs to score big points if he is to keep his title hopes alive.
The 125 MAX class will again field 26 karts, with series leader Alexandre Silanine needing a win to neutralise the ascendancy of Philippe Valenza. Piers Pakenham-Walsh and Abdulla Al Rawahi will also be looking to close up the points order. When asked about his hopes for this weekend’s events, Al Rawahi said “For sure I will be hoping to win this time. I have had some bad luck so far but I am still in with a chance for the title. So long as I stay out of trouble I think I can make ground.â€
Pasqual Pook will be hoping to put the disappointment of the last race behind him. The young charge was side-lined after a collision which allowed Guilio Peroni to close the gap. Tehmur Chohan will need to hold off a challenge from an on-form Alain Bauwmans and Ivan Berets if he is to continue his journey towards a second consecutive Mini MAX title. Sem Knopjes is class favourite for Micro MAX.
Sam Zian will be going head-to-head with Piers Pakenham-Walsh in the Honda Challenge once more. With only two rounds left of the Honda season he needs a big points haul to topple Pakenham-Walshs’ lead.
Racing kicks off at 10am on Friday 1st February, spectator entry is free.
