UAE RMC R10 Short-Review

UAE ROTAX MAX CHALLENGE 2012-13 – ROUND 10
History was made today, Friday 22nd March 2013, as the UAE Rotax MAX Challenge took place on part of the Formula 1â„¢ track at Yas Marina Circuit. This was the first time in the world ever that a Formula 1â„¢ facility has hosted a kart championship race meeting.
Round 10 of the 13 round series, the UAE’s only National Karting Championship, was held on the 1.2 km ‘North Circuit’ which incorporates a section of the International Formula 1™ track. The race meeting saw 72 entries in various classes, a record attendance for the series.
The awesome facility added an extra dimension to the series which reaches its thrilling conclusion next month.
In terms of the racing, arguably the biggest highlight was the Senior MAX Final in which any of 10 of the 26 competitors could have ended up on the top step of the podium. After an amazing final lap, which saw the lead change hands four times, Ameer Hassan took a hard fought win over Abdullah Al Rawahi, with Tarek Sukhtion claiming a dramatic third place on the final corner.
The DD2 class saw seasoned campaigner, Maurits Knopjes, come out of retirement to seal a confident victory over local hero, Saeed Al Mehairi and championship leader Oliver George.
Taymour Kermanshahchi continued his impressive run of form in the Junior MAX category, leading from the start to take top honours ahead of fierce rivals, Pasqual Pook and Giulio Peroni.

Mini MAX saw a titanic clash at the front between championship contenders Tehmur Chohan and Alain Bauwmans. With almost nothing to separate them throughout the entire race day, Bauwmans narrowly defeated his main rival by just half a second. Yahya Houston secured the final podium spot in a very competitive field. Yusuf Moola was victorious in Micro MAX ahead of Sem Knopjes and Ziggy Kermanshahchi.
The same competitors resume their battles tomorrow, Saturday 23rd March, in the second day of a special double-header format.
